Normally, the regular modem uses radio waves which travel in straight line to transmit the signals. But, in the case of satelite internet, the signals are sent from the main modem to the satellite, which acts as both a receiver and transmitter. As the satellite orbits the earth once exactly every 24 hours making it stationary according to the movement of the earth, it made possible for the satellite to distribute the signals to an immensely large area by its mere positioning. The best is that the satellite internet allows individuals to fast connections, making even in rural and remote areas where DSL lines are not available.
